One of the best internet marketing strategies is to promote affiliate products, right? Wrong! The best strategy is to promote affiliate products that fit your list! Look, the thing is if you want to make money from Internet marketing, you have to sell products to your list that make sense. If you don’t, no matter how great your copywriting skills may be, you won’t make any money. It’s just that simple.
So, I remember once I had a Black Diamond Line student-she was trying to get me to promote some eBook about cats or something. She said, "Well, you have five cats. You talk about having cats in your home office. Why won’t you promote my eBook about cats?"
To this student…and maybe to some of you that makes sense…but it really doesn’t.
So I said, "Because my list doesn’t care about cats-even though I’m sure there are some people on my list who care about cats."
She then said, "Why don’t you promote it…to get the people who care about cats to respond?"
I just told her I couldn’t do it. Sure there are people on my list who care about cats…there are people on my list who care about every possible topic imaginable!
Let’s look at it a different way…do you think everybody on my list might brush their teeth in the morning? I certainly hope that a large percentage of people on my list brush their teeth in the morning…now maybe I’m wrong in that, but I hope they do. That doesn’t mean I’m going to start promoting toothpaste to my list. I’m not the dental authority; I’m the list-building authority.
Now, on the other hand, if I had a list about how to get rid of gingivitis, and you have an amazing toothpaste that helps to promote healthy gums-my dad’s a dentist, so I know some of these terms-or dental floss, toothbrush, ointment…or whatever…that helps to promote healthy gums, helps to eliminate bad breath or whatever, now we have a winner. But I’m not going to promote your eBook about cats to my list. It doesn’t make any sense.
Regardless of what you’re promoting, your message has to be a match for your list. You wouldn’t try to sell ice to Eskimos, steaks to vegetarians, or hairbrushes to bald men. It just wouldn’t make sense and you’d make no money.
Always keep your niche and what the people in that niche want in mind. If you find affiliate products that match…for example selling golfing accessories to golfers…you’ll do much better and your business will succeed. That important factor…matching the products to your list…is what makes affiliate marketing a great internet marketing strategy-and a great way to make money online.
